Recessive ball python gene
Zebra Ball Python: Genetics and Pairing Odds
Zebra is a recessive gene. A ball python needs two copies to look Zebra; with one copy it looks normal and is called het Zebra. Pair two hets and about a quarter of the babies are visual Zebra, while the normal-looking siblings are each 66% likely to be het. Breed a visual to a normal and every baby is het, which is how most Zebra projects start.
In Lock and Lay, Zebra can't be bought at the start. It turns up only as a spontaneous mutation, from a lucky egg, and the first breeder to hatch one gets their name on the discovery board.
