Recessive ball python gene
Sahara Ball Python: Genetics and Pairing Odds
Sahara is a recessive gene. A ball python needs two copies to look Sahara; with one copy it looks normal and is called het Sahara. Pair two hets and about a quarter of the babies are visual Sahara, while the normal-looking siblings are each 66% likely to be het. Breed a visual to a normal and every baby is het, which is how most Sahara projects start.
