Recessive ball python gene
Monsoon Ball Python: Genetics and Pairing Odds
Monsoon is a recessive gene. A ball python needs two copies to look Monsoon; with one copy it looks normal and is called het Monsoon. Pair two hets and about a quarter of the babies are visual Monsoon, while the normal-looking siblings are each 66% likely to be het. Breed a visual to a normal and every baby is het, which is how most Monsoon projects start.
In Lock and Lay, Monsoon can't be bought at the start. It turns up only as a spontaneous mutation, from a lucky egg, and the first breeder to hatch one gets their name on the discovery board.
